Mortgage Lending Down in 2009
Figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders showed that mortgage lending fell by 43% last year compared to 2008. The total mortgage lending, although down, was slightly above the forecasted figure. However, mortgage lending rose in December compared with the previous month as buyers tried to beat the rise in stamp duty on January 1.
